Frida Kahlo, Who doesn’t love her? She is one of the greatest Mexican female artists and our inspiration for this fashion shooting. The symbol of strength, Frida underwent more than thirty operations in the course of her life, and most of her paintings relate to her experiences with psychological suffering. It is these experiences that inspired many of her famous quotes.
Frida was born on July 6, 1907, in Mexico City. She contracted polio when she was six years old which left her with a deformed right foot. Her original ambition was to be a doctor but a streetcar accident in 1925 left her disabled and changed the path of her life.
Partially immobile, Frida started painting in the late 1920s and she married twice famed muralist Diego Rivera who was the love of her life and dedicated to him a passionate diary and many of her paintings. She also had a lot of lovers, men and women, such as Leon Trotsky and André Breton’s wife. Diego and Frida moved together to the United States, staying in Detroit and New York City where Kahlo had exhibitions of her paintings and was associated with some of the most famous painters in the world.
